The men’s basketball transfer window opened more than three months ago and closed more than six weeks ago — but we’ve finally entered the portal to the end of the season. Following Coleman Hawkins’ commitment to Kansas State, only one player remains undrafted in the top 100 of ESPN’s transfer rankings. All eyes are on Arthur Kaluma.

It was the busiest transfer window we’ve seen since the portal launched, with over 2,000 players logging in with the intention of changing schools. According to EvanMiya.com’s transfer database, three teams — Louisville, USC and DePaul — have signed at least 11 transfers, while 16 programs have at least 10 players enter the portal.

While there are still undrafted players and the recruiting class won’t be 100% complete until late summer, there is now more than enough data to determine which programs came in with an improved roster this transfer season and which programs saw an exodus of talent leave through the portal.

We divided the more than 50 transfer classes into four categories: big winners, programs that faced complete rebuilds, teams that needed just one or two pieces to complete their rosters, and teams that lost more talent than they gained through the portal.

Big winners

Kansas Jayhawks: Bill Self hasn’t lost anyone to the portal yet has reloaded dramatically through the transfer market. He has top-5 transfers and two other top-25 transfers in AJ Storr (Wisconsin) and Rylan Griffen (Alabama) and Zeke Mayo (South Dakota State). Mississippi State transfer Shaquille Moore is also a proven high-major rotation player.
