With so many changes taking place at Liverpool over the summer, fans have plenty of questions heading into the new season.
Arne’s slot has yet to appear, concrete transfer links are rare and three significant contracts are yet to be renewed.
Ahead of an intriguing summer, we’ve done our best to answer eight key questions asked by Liverpool fans…
When will we hear from Sloto?
With Slott officially being Liverpool’s head coach from June 1, the club’s almost radio silence since the end of the season has confused some supporters.
Those fans will be waiting a little while longer, with Slott reportedly not speaking on club channels until the team returns for preseason in early July.
However, this does not mean that he will not work. It just means that a large part of the club’s media department is on vacation and there is no urgent need to publish interviews.
What about the contracts of Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold?
Again, like the answer above, fans will be waiting longer than expected for this one.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk both in the running to win Euro 2024, it is hard to see contract talks taking place while they are in Germany.
It is likely to be at least July before there is any movement on the players’ contracts, which both expire in 2025. Mo Salah’s contract also expires at the end of next season.
What does the future hold for Trento?
It sounds silly, but watching Alexander-Arnold enjoy himself with Judah Bellingham never fails to make his stomach churn.
After playing in midfield for Gareth Southgate, he could return to Liverpool feeling he deserves a chance to shine in that position.
Whether that will be possible probably comes down to the system Slott chooses to deploy and, for now, we don’t know if he will stick with Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 or switch to a 4-2-3-1.
Either way, one of the Dutchman’s most important jobs will be to ensure he satisfies Alexander-Arnold’s ambitions as a player.
With his contract set to expire in 2025, Alexander-Arnold may require some reassurance about his position before signing on the dotted line.
Who could leave the club?
Along with Joel Matip and Thiago, more players are set to leave Liverpool this summer.
That includes Sepp van den Berg, who has already spoken of his desire to move on.
Adrian has also expressed his desire to leave and will reportedly reject the offer of a new contract.
Another goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, could also be heading for the exit door having made his intentions clear to become No.1.
Although Liverpool would like to keep him, they could let him go if they receive a suitable offer. This is Anfield he understands that would be far more than £20m.
At lower level, Nat Phillips is expected to leave, while Kostas Tsimikas could also be for sale.
Notable youngsters who have been released include Mateusz Musialowski, who made a brief appearance as a substitute this season, Adam Lewis and Melkamu Frauendorf.
In the loan department, Hull are known to be interested in James McConnell and Derby in Bobby Clark.
The likes of Rhys Williams, Owen Beck, Billy Koumetio and James Norris could also move on, either on loan or permanently.
Can we expect a new signing?
As with any new manager, we can expect a few new faces to come through the door with him.
However, don’t expect a team overhaul. One of the reasons Slott has appealed to Liverpool is the fact that he will hopefully work effectively with the squad already in the position.
So far this summer, there have been no concrete connections with new players.
We do know, however, that sporting director Richard Hughes will be looking for options in defense as well as scouting forwards – a number of right wingers have been linked.
In addition, if Kelleher leaves, they will almost certainly sign another goalkeeper to play as Alisson’s backup.
Where does Nunez fit in?
Fans quickly lost patience with Nunez during his warm-up and, had Klopp stayed, it might have been the end for Liverpool’s Uruguayan.
The arrival of Sloto, however, has given Nunez a final lifeline, as the Dutchman reportedly sees him as “critical” to his plans.
Whether that is indeed the case remains to be seen, but if Nunez plays well at the Copa America, he could return to Liverpool surrounded by positive sentiment.
Still, a slow start to the campaign and he could be shown the door by Christmas. This is a vital few months for the eclectic number 9.
Who plays international football?
A big summer of international football is upon us with Euro 2024 and the Copa America taking center stage.
Liverpool will have 10 players at the European Championship in Germany and four at the Copa America in the USA.
At Euro 2024: Andy Robertson (Scotland); Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez (England); Dominik Szoboszlai (Hungary); Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch (Netherlands); Ibrahim Konata (France); Diogo Jota (Portugal); Vitezslav Jaros (Czech Republic)
At the Copa America: Darwin Nunez (Uruguay); Alexis McAllister (Argentina); Luis Diaz (Colombia); Alisson (Brazil)
When does preseason start?
As it stands, the first chance to see Slott in the dugout will be when Liverpool play Real Betis, in Pittsburgh, USA, on July 27 at 12.30pm (BST).
Next up are scheduled warm-up games against Arsenal and Man United, in the early hours of August 1 and 4, respectively.
However, there is a possibility that more matches will be planned, with Slott needing to see as many of his players as possible before their first competitive match.
