Brighton, the English Premier League club, announced today, Saturday, that its coach, Roberto De Zerbe, will leave the team after the final match of the season against Manchester United this weekend.

De Zerby joined Brighton in September 2022, replacing Graham Potter, and made an immediate impact when he secured their highest league position (sixth) and helped them qualify for European competition for the first time.

This season, Brighton have reached the last 16 of the Europa League, but have struggled in the Premier League, where they sit in 10th place heading into the final day of the season on Sunday.

Club president Tony Bloom said in a statement: “Roberto gave us two excellent seasons of service during which he led the club to new heights, not the least of which was our first-ever European campaign, which will remain long in the memory of Albion fans.”

“We have mutually agreed to terminate Roberto’s contract at a time that suits both parties, giving us the earliest opportunity to plan for next season, and Roberto has plenty of time to think about his next move and his future.”

The Italian manager has won praise for his entertaining, possession-based style of football. He also nurtured young talent who were able to flourish in his system even when the club lost senior players to bigger teams.

De Zerbe said: “I am very sad to leave Brighton, but I am very proud of what the players and staff have achieved with the support of everyone at the club and our amazing fans over the past two historic seasons.”

“I have really enjoyed an intense and challenging two years in the Premier League, not least competing in four major competitions this season. Leaving now gives me time to take a break before deciding on my future plans.”
