Finding a suitable left-back specialist has proved quite challenging for Erik ten Hag with both of his options unavailable for more than 40 percent of games this season.
Luke Shaw ended up missing 36 games, while Tyrell Malacia did not play a single game this campaign. Even loan signing Sergio Reguilon started seven games before his short-term contract was terminated in January.
Center back Victor Lindelof and defensive midfielder Sofyan Amrabat have been forced to play there in multiple games, while in recent months the Dutch manager has alternated between his right-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot to fill the position.
New co-owners INEOS have decided to bring in a left-back this summer, with reports from Italy claiming the Red Devils have approached Juventus for Andrea Cambiaso.

The Italian international’s versatility is a huge draw with the 24-year-old able to play further forward and even in midfield if needed.
This season, the former Genoa star has been an ever-present in the Juve team, playing 39 games in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
The Old Lady has been extremely impressed with Cambiaso and wants to offer him a brand new contract that would run until 2028 and the player could also get a pay rise.
Apart from the Old Trafford side, Premier League rivals Arsenal are also keen on the versatile Italian, but the Torino side have no plans to sell their new star despite needing funds for their planned summer rebuild.
Cambiaso approach
Tuttomercatoweb writes: “Cristiano Giuntoli has to deal with the club’s financial needs. At first it was thought that only Kenan Yildiz was untouchable, but according to what Tuttosport found out this morning, that is not the case: Andrea Cambiaso is also non-transferable.
“The proof comes from the strong intentions of Arsenal and Manchester United, who approached the player’s entourage because they liked him so much, until director Giuntoli intervened and gave a stern ‘no thank you’.
“But there’s more: Juventus’ technical manager has scheduled a meeting with Giovanni Bia (Cambias’ agent) in the next few days to secure an extension to his contract until 2028, with a relative pay rise based on the 24-year-old’s performances this season.”
Cambiaso is valued at around €40-45m and could fill more gaps in the squad if United do approach the Serie A giants with a formal offer.
