In the era of social media and the desire to analyze every little detail, the relationship between Darwin Nunez and Jurgen Klopp has come into question, but his latest comments suggest there is no problem.

No Liverpool player has featured more than Nunez in 2023/24, with Klopp calling on his striker in 54 of 58 games – with injury ruling him out of three of those games he missed.

He has had a frustrating season with the second most missed chances of any Premier League player (24), behind only Erling Haaland (34), according to FotMob.

On top of that, his relationship with Klopp has come under the microscope, which intensified after he appeared not to applaud the manager during the guard of honour.

But after arriving in Uruguay ahead of the Copa America, Nunez’s words dismissed any notion of problems with Klopp.

He said, as he quotes Earth: “We were all a bit shocked by Klopp’s departure, nobody expected it. Too bad he’s leaving.

“I personally would like him (to go) in a big way, to win, but it didn’t happen that way.

“It’s a shame for the players too. I wish him all the best in the world.”

Not exactly what a player would say if he was happy to see the back of his manager.

There has been speculation over Nunez’s future after he deleted all traces of Liverpool from his public Instagram, but it has been widely reported that there are no plans to sell the 9 this summer.

In fact, after Arne Slott was announced as the new head coach at Anfield, there were reports that the Dutchman sees Nunez as “critical” to his plans.

He could be a project player for Slott, who will be hoping the Uruguayan can unleash a relentless streak that will flip the script and the discourse on the hotly debated player.
