Given that two changes are planned for the League Cup, and some misinformation is circulating about one of them, we have explained them in a simple way.

First, the good news – The League Cup returns to British terrestrial television.

After Sky Sports announced it would broadcast all 93 games in the competition, ITV has now agreed in principle to show at least nine matches on free-to-air UK television.

This includes two quarter-final matches, a semi-final and a final. In recent years, Sky Sports has had the exclusive right to cover the competition since their contract with the BBC ended in the mid-2010s.

That’s welcome news for fans who will more than likely now be able to watch Liverpool for free at least once in the competition, possibly more depending on the team’s success.

No, there really won’t be any ‘seeding’

In more controversial news, another change is planned for next season’s League Cup.

In the third round, the teams of the Champions League will not be able to meet the teams from the Europa Leaguedue to scheduling problems due to expanded European competitions.

This was reported Telegraph in a way that the top clubs seemed to be seeded.

Although the situation is far from ideal, this was not done to create an uneven playing field. This was done to avoid clashes in matches with the first two European competitions.

If an advantage is to be gained, it will be minimal.

The third round of the League Cup will take place midweek on September 18 and 25.

The first leg of the Champions League will also take place midweek on September 18, while the first leg of the Europa League will be played on September 25.

This means that the Champions League and Europa League clubs, in order to avoid conflicts, will not be able to play each other.

However, Champions League clubs will still be able to draw Champions League clubs and Europa League clubs will still be able to draw Europa League clubs.

The controversy that has arisen as a result of this news is probably overblown, but the situation is indicative of the problems facing football.

Each governing body continuously plans and adds schedules to the calendar without collaborating with others to adjust the schedule.

This leads to players being overplayed and ‘non-elite’ clubs being overlooked in favor of money-spinning Champions League games.
