The agent of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has met with several elite clubs in Europe, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The future of Fernandes’ United has been the subject of speculation within the fan base in recent weeks.

The playmaker is believed to be of interest from both Saudi Arabia and Europe, with the likes of Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan all mentioned as admirers.

However, following United’s 3-2 win against Newcastle last month, Fernandes spoke to the media and insisted his desire is to stay at Old Trafford as long as the club have him.

David Ornstein of Atletico later revealed that the Portugal international and his representatives held a meeting with senior figures at Old Trafford such as Jason Wilcox and Sir Dave Brailsford.

Ornstein said Fernandes wanted reassurances that United’s vision for the future matched his personal ambitions to challenge for top honors every season. It was said that all those present left the meeting satisfied with the discussion and the conclusions drawn from it.

Fernandes played a key role for the Red Devils as they beat Manchester City 2-1 last weekend to lift the FA Cup. In the showpiece event at Wembley, Fernandes’ most notable contribution was a sublime no-look assist to Kobbie Mainoo that sealed the team’s win against Pep Guardiola’s men.

The prevailing feeling within the fanbase was that everything was settled with Fernandes and there was no need to worry about his position at the club or the likelihood of him exploring a move elsewhere.

However, all these concerns were returned after Fabrizio Romano announced on social media that the United skipper’s agent, Miguel Pinho, “met with several top clubs around Europe this week”.

Romano did not specify which clubs Fernandes’ agent was in talks with.

The Italian journalist added that the midfielder remains fully focused and committed to United, but is yet to make a final decision on whether he wants to continue with the 20-time English champions or not.

Fernandes’ current terms expire in 2026. United have the option to extend for another year.
