Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho was handed 87 minutes as Borussia Dortmund were beaten by Real Madrid at Wembley in the Champions League final.
Late goals in the 74th and 83rd minutes from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior were enough to win the trophy for Madrid and inflict pain on Dortmund.
The Bundesliga side dominated for large periods of the game and created a number of clear-cut chances, especially in the first 45 minutes, but they were not clinical in front of goal. Carlo Ancelotti’s men came into play as time wore on and finally got their reward.
Sancho started on the right wing in a 4-3-3 formation. He was part of an attacking trio that also included Karim Adeyemi on the opposite flank and Niclas Fullkrug leading the line.
The United loanee was not as effective and dangerous as in the semi-final match against Paris Saint-Germain.
Apart from one or two instances where he ran into Ferlando Mendy and tried to cross the ball into the box, Sancho didn’t offer much in terms of Madrid’s attack. However, he did the simple things well and produced some nice combinations with Julian Ryerson on the right flank.
Sancho was eventually taken off by Edin Terzic and replaced by Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
During his time on the field, Sancho failed to register a single shot, either on target or off target.
He went into three dribbles and finished just one. Sancho had 39 touches of the ball and successfully delivered 26 of the 31 passes he attempted, managing an individual pass completion rate of 84%.
The 24-year-old failed to register a key pass or interception.
The Englishman found his target with one long ball that he tried to ping. He did not attempt a cross. Sancho won two of the seven duels on the ground he entered and made one interception.

It was certainly not the performance Sancho would have envisioned given how brilliant he was against PSG. The striker is now ready to return to United, where his future will be arranged.
Another spell with Dortmund – whether on loan again or on a permanent basis – is firmly on the cards for Sancho. A player staying at United in a bid to salvage his career at Old Trafford is also a possibility and should not be completely ruled out.
