Liverpool striker Cody Gakpo believes Arne Slott’s footballing philosophy makes him the ideal successor to Jurgen Klopp.
Dutchman Slot officially began his tenure at Anfield on Saturday following the departure of long-term manager Klopp.
Reds striker Gakpo, formerly of PSV Eindhoven, played against his countryman’s AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord during his Eredivisie days.

Asked if Slott’s style would be transferable, Gakpo told the Dutch newspaper The Telegraph: “I think so, otherwise the club would not have appointed him.
“If you talk about good football and high pressure, with the latter being a very big feature for us under Jurgen Klopp, then that is also something we are certainly used to.”
Slott has signed a three-year deal to become the club’s first Premier League coach rather than manager.
He arrives on Merseyside after guiding Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title, Dutch Cup glory and the 2022 European Conference League final during his three-year spell in Rotterdam.
The 45-year-old spent the previous season at AZ, finishing second to Ajax on goal difference in a campaign interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I haven’t spoken to him before… (but) I know he always made it difficult for us at PSV and he’s known as a very good coach, of course,” said Dutch international Gakpo.
