Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes enjoyed another strong individual campaign last season, despite his team’s overall struggles.
The United man’s uncanny ability to stay fit and at Erik ten Hag’s disposal continues to impress and saw him pick up the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award at the end of the season.
He will now hope to play an integral role at the European Championships for Portugal, who are undoubtedly one of the favorites to lift the trophy, which is being held in Germany.
According to Portuguese media, Fernandes goes into the tournament after playing more minutes last season than any other outfield player competing during the summer.
Bruno made just 50 appearances for United in all competitions, missing just three Premier League matches at the end of the campaign to ensure his fitness for the FA Cup final – a match in which he put in a fantastic performance as the Red Devils triumphed over bitter local rivals Manchester City .
Fernandes’ injury record since joining United in January 2020 has been nothing short of exceptional and played a big part in Erik ten Hag deciding to make him club captain at the start of last season.
Only Slovak goalkeeper Jan Oblak logged more kilometers during the 2023/24 season, as he was a constant presence in goal for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
Scottish John McGinn is third on the list of minutes played last year, while Croatian stopper Dominik Livaković is fourth.
Former first league player Dušan Tadić from Serbia is among the top five.
Fernandes’ club and home team-mate Diogo Dalot is eighth on the list and United’s only entry into the top 10.
Dalot also enjoyed a fine individual season at Old Trafford and was awarded the player of the year award for his performances.
The pair begin their quest for European glory on Tuesday (June 18) against the Czech Republic and will be desperate to end the summer with six more games under their belts before a well-deserved summer break.
