Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw endured a miserable campaign last time out, missing most of the team’s difficult season through injury.
However, the left-back expects little time for the European Championship game with England in the coming weeks.
While away, Shaw was quizzed on the best players he has shared the field with and put together his dream XI from team-mates over the years.
According to the Sun, despite the squad being loaded with quality, there have been one or two curious choices by United.
David de Gea took his place between the sticks – an obvious choice given the Spaniard’s quality, especially during Shaw’s early years at Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old lined up at left-back, alongside Raphaël Varane with England team-mate Kyle Walker at right-back.
Varane’s centre-half partner was the first controversial pick, with Shaw opting for Manchester City defender John Stones ahead of World Cup winner and club-mate Lisandro Martinez.
It was an English midfield trio with only one United player making the cut in the form of Michael Carrick, who sits behind Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. There was no place for Shaw’s current home captain Bruno Fernandes.
A star front trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic highlights the attacking talent United have boasted over the last decade.
Ibrahimovic’s influence on Shaw was particularly noticeable as Bayern Munich and England goal machine Harry Kane missed out on the Swede, despite spending just two seasons at Old Trafford.
United will be hoping Shaw can make it through the Euros without further damage having not played for his club since February.
Erik ten Hag’s side remain a much better side with Shaw in them and, despite his injury problems, he is still a player who can make a difference when he is at full tilt.
United are expected to be in the market for a left-back this summer which could put his place in the squad under pressure; something he hasn’t really had to deal with since joining from Southampton in 2014.
Shaw hopes to feature for England in one of their final group games in Germany after missing the win against Serbia on Sunday.
