Maggie Voisin is done with competitive freeskiing

After three Olympics, seven X Games medals, and 10 years on the Stifel U.S. Ski Team, Maggie Voisin has decided to step back from the world of competitive freeskiing.

The announcement came via Instagram on Thursday when Voisin announced that she will no longer compete in future Olympics, X Games, or any other freeskiing competition. After 10 years on the U.S. Ski Team, including being named Freeskiing Athlete of the Year in 2020, Voisin has accomplished more in the sport than many others her age.

“I am so proud of everything I have accomplished, for everything I’ve been able to push through, and for living out my childhood dream. I am so unbelievably grateful for all the ups and downs every moment has taught me, and I am beyond thankful for every single person this sport has also brought into my life.”

This is far from any kind of retirement, however. Now, she’s turning her attention to different styles of skiing, focusing on progressing her skills in the backcountry and on big mountain lines. In 2023, she joined the TGR crew, and one fortuitous phone call from childhood best friend Parkin led to Maggie’s annual film debut with not one, but two, segments.

This is the beginning of a new chapter for Voisin, who follows a path from competition to the backcountry which seems like a natural progression for many competitive freeskiers. Congratulations to her on a fantastic career, and we look forward to seeing what’s next.
