English club Brighton & Hove Albion announced, on Sunday, that it had reached an agreement with Newcastle United to sign Gambian winger Yankuba Mente for five years.

The 19-year-old joined the club after a successful season on loan at Feyenoord, runner-up in the Eredivisie, where he participated in 37 matches in all competitions and scored 10 goals in the league.

Brighton have agreed a £30 million ($37 million) fee with Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side wanted to make a big sale by the end of June to avoid the chance of breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations.

“Yankuba is a young talent who has attracted a lot of interest and we are delighted to welcome him to the club,” Brighton manager David Weir said in a statement.

Mente joined Danish club Odense in 2022 before signing for Newcastle in 2023 and was loaned out to Feyenoord.

He scored against Celtic in the Champions League and has seven caps for Gambia, scoring three goals.
