On one Knoxville Saturday this fall, Neyland Stadium’s traditional Tennessee orange will be swapped for gray.
The Tennessee Volunteers unveiled the 2024 edition of their “Smoky Grey” uniform series over the weekend, with the latest in a line of alternate digs paying homage to the university’s namesake.

The flag of the Volunteer State is displayed prominently on the uniform. References to the flag’s three stars – symbolizing Tennessee’s three grand divisions – are found on the shoulders, helmet and back of the pants.
This will be the first home uniform in program history to have the state name emblazoned across the front of the jersey as opposed to the traditional “Power T” logo.

The digs, aptly named “Volunteer State,” will mark the third year in a row that Tennessee has rocked a version of the Smoky Gray options. The Vols are 2-0 in smokey gray games since the uniform series returned after a hiatus in 2022 and 5-1 in such games since the original options were released in 2015.
