Leny Yoro is undergoing a medical “as we speak” and will be unveiled as a new Manchester United player today or tomorrow.

This is according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who has posted:

“Leny Yoro medical taking place as we speak – once done today/tomorrow Manchester United contract will be signed. 5yr deal + option to extend by 12mnths. 18yo decided last night to accept move to #MUFC from Lille for maximum of €70m:”

Ornstein’s confirmation is as close to an official source as it gets.

Of course, deals can fall through at the last minute but it looks as if United have pulled off an incredible coup by landing the generational talent, Yoro.

The 18 year old was Liverpool’s top defensive target of the summer, as they believed him to be the natural successor to Virgil van Dijk. However, along with Paris Saint-Germain they pulled out of the race, believing that the Frenchman would only sign for Real Madrid.

However, United did not give up. They made a bullish offer that was far in excess of the €40 million maximum Real were ever going to fork out, and convinced the player that they meant business and that he was their priority.

Had Yoro refused United, he could have seen his contract out and joined Real on a free in 12 months’ time, but a year is a long time in football and there would have been no guarantee that they would have been able to honour the gentleman’s agreement.

As Yoro did not take part in Euro 24 and is not going to the Olympics, he should be eligible to join up with his new United teammates straight away once the deal is signed.

This means that if fit enough, he could feature in the pre-season warm up game against Rangers on Sunday and will almost certainly go on the full tour of the states.

We still await another transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano’s famous “here we go” post on social media, but Ornstein’s word is at least as good as Romano’s, allowing United fans to pop a cork to celebrate a fantastic signing for sporting director Dan Ashworth, who has hit the ground running at United in spectacular fashion.
