Fulham may pivot their attention away from Manchester United’s Scott McTominay towards Tottenham’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg.

After signing a striker in Joshua Zirkzee and a centre back in the form of Leny Yoro, United’s attention has now shifted to improving their midfield.

In yet another action-packed day of Manchester United transfer activity, news broke late last night that the Red Devils had agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte and are currently in discussions with his club.

Unfortunately, due to budget restrictions, it appears that Erik ten Hag’s side must sell to buy in the midfield with McTominay, Casemiro and Eriksen all reportedly on the chopping block.

Fulham are one club who could help out United’s pursuit of Ugarte as they have made a bid of £17 million for McTominay.

It was also reported that the side from Craven Cottage were weighing up whether to return with a second offer but Football Insider report that “after being rebuffed by Manchester United in their attempt to sign McTominay, Fulham have turned their attention to the Dane (Hojbjerg).”

“Spurs have told the 28-year-old midfielder that he is free to find a new club following the £40million signing of Archie Gray from Leeds United.”

This could be potentially bad news for United who might have been relying on Fulham’s interest in the player.

Nonetheless, the midfielder who scored 10 goals last season certainly does have other options.

It was relayed here yesterday that Tottenham Hotspur themselves might also be a possible destination for McTominay as they have reportedly entered the race to sign the 27 year old.

In addition, Galatasaray have also been linked to a move and have reportedly made a bid for him, but his wage demands and price tag may prove too great a stumbling block.

If United are to make space for Ugarte, it looks like there is much greater interest in the Scottish international than Casemiro as the club are finding it difficult to move him on as interest from Saudi Arabia has begun to cool.

Ineos have already sold Donny van de Beek, Willy Kambwala and Mason Greenwood but they will need to shift more if they are to continue to add to their squad. Perhaps this will be their toughest test as the club regularly struggled to shift dead wood under the Glazer regime.
