The Summer Olympics are back, and with them the athletes’ beds in the Olympic Village.
The last time the Olympics were held, in Tokyo 2020, the athletes’ accommodation made headlines because of its interesting material: cardboard. Designed to be recyclable and made into new products after the Games, the beds had to overcome claims of being “anti-intimate.”
Regardless of its purpose, the cartoon family has clearly proven to be a success, returning this year as strong as ever.

But it’s a little different for Olympic surfers. This year’s event will be held in Tahiti – the furthest away from the host city a medal event has ever been.
With the competitors more than 9,000 miles from Paris, there was a need for an Olympic village specifically for surfers. The result was a floating village on a cruise ship based off the island.

Each room has a balcony with an ocean view, and it’s worth noting that they also do not have cardboard beds.
