A Manchester United XI side took on Chester FC at the Deva Stadium in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.
Made up of mix of u21s and u18s, the young United side featured a new face with the experienced Tommy Rowe involved as a trialist for a player-coach position.
United started hot with Gabriele Biancheri opening the scoring just six minutes into the match.
Chester levelled it back up just moments later though when Connell Rawlinson won the header from a corner before Tom Peers hooked the ball into the goal past Elyh Harrison.
The home side had chances to take the lead but were denied by Harrison before coming close with a free kick attempt that curled just wide of the post.
It was United who would score next though, Biancheri added his second of the match in the 36th minute after rounding the keeper. A fox in the box, Biancheri comes alive in the area earning him comparisons to former United striker Chicharito.
Just after the half time break, Harrison was called into question again to make an outstanding save to stop Matty Williams’ header, which had looked destined for the top corner.
Chester pushed for an equaliser and came within inches of getting it when Jordan Hunter’s strike cannoned off the bar and out.
But it was another United goal that was on the menu, a defensive slip saw the ball fall loose to 16-year-old James Bailey, who ran in and finished past the keeper.
The matched finished 1-3 to United, an impressive result for such a young United side off the back of a treble-winning season for the u18s.
Most of the squad from the match will now head to Zagreb to take part in the Mladen Ramljak Memorial Tournament next week.
A big thank you to everyone at @ManUtd for visiting us tonight – great to see such a great crowd in at the Deva this evening. 👏💙#AllOfUs | @devarick pic.twitter.com/UiO8Jq9MWl
