Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton insists he is still motivated to play for the club and is not yet ready to hang up his gloves.
Heaton did not make a senior appearance for United last season, during what was a disappointing campaign for the club.
United finished in eighth place in the Premier League, their lowest-ever finish since 1989/90.
The 38-year-old came through the ranks at Old Trafford and after spells with Cardiff, Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa, made his return to the club in 2021.
He has won three England caps and was with the national team during Euro 2024.
Heaton was invited by Gareth Southgate to provide support to the goalkeeping department that consisted of the likes of Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale and Dean Henderson.
Earlier this month, the shot-stopper signed a new one-year contract to extend his stay at United.
Heaton is currently with the Red Devils in Los Angeles for their pre-season tour.
He spoke to BBC and said about his future, “I still have a hunger to play. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here.”
“There is still a drive to get into the team. I know the natural way of things. I have not played as much football as I would have liked, certainly not last season.”
“You get to a certain point and there is a supporting role.”
He added, “But there is no loss of appetite. Fighting to get into that Manchester United shirt is something special.”
United will open their tour against Arsenal on July 27 before facing off vs. Real Betis on July 31. The team’s final meeting will see them play Arne Slot’s Liverpool on August 3.
