Former Manchester United wonderkid Ravel Morrison is set to feature in a pre-season friendly fixture against an under 21 side this evening (Thursday).
Morrison will line up alongside 17 other professional players without a club to take on a youthful United side.
As reported by The Sun, the free agents will be hoping to impress potential suitors who could take them on for the upcoming campaign.
Morrison is the most high profile player that will take part in the game, after being recently released from his latest club, DC United.
The 31-year-old has suffered multiple false starts in his career, since leaving United for West Ham in January 2012.
Since then, the talented player has had spells at numerous clubs across the globe including Lazio, Atlas, Ostersund, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough, ADO Den Haag, Derby County and most recently in America with DC.
The midfielder will be hoping he can seal a deal on the back of tonight’s performance and finally settle down in what will be the twilight of his professional career.
Morrison has been training with the Professional Footballers’ Association for last few months in a bid to maintain his fitness for the new season.
Despite his unquestionable ability, the former Red Devil has somehow struggled to leave his mark on the game after been touted as the best player to have come through United’s academy for decades.
Sir Alex Ferguson is said to have labelled the London-born player better than club legends Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs when he was a youngster and admitted having to move him on from Old Trafford was ‘painful’.
Former United defender Rio Ferdinand is another who regularly speaks highly of Morrison’s qualities, calling him “the most naturally gifted young kid” he’d ever seen.
However, off the field issues played a part in the player not fulfilling his potential, leaving him without a club once more.
