SSC Napoli will continue talks with Manchester United over Scott McTominay.
The Red Devils have been very busy in the transfer market this summer, bringing in Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Maraoui.
They aren’t done there though as they are desperate to bring in a defensive midfielder with Manuel Ugarte, Sander Berge and Youssouf Fofana all options the Red Devils may attempt to sign before the window closes on the 30th of August.
Nonetheless, after spending to acquire the aforementioned players, the Red Devils do not have a huge budget for a midfielder unless they can sell, and McTominay’s departure would enhance United’s ability to spend massively as he is an academy product and his sale would represent pure profit.
It was reported yesterday that they have turned down a loan offer from Napoli for the Scottish midfielder but according to fresh reports, this has certainly not killed the Italians’ interest.
Corriere dello Sport report that McTominay is “liked” by Napoli but he has a “very high valuation” of €30 million despite the fact he only has one year left on his current deal.
The Serie A side’s sporting director Giovanni Manna “will talk about it with Manchester United in the coming days, as he knows that the starting price is high and he also knows that a possible loan transfer would only be possible if the player renewed his contract with United first.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport also corroborate this information this morning by reporting Napoli’s interest in the player but again they affirm that 30 million is “too much to think of a permanent deal” and “a loan is also difficult, given that the player’s contract will expire next June.”
Numerous clubs have expressed interest in the Scottish international as Fulham have already had two bids rejected for the midfielder.
It also seems that Tottenham Hotspur may decide to make a move for the 27 year old before the transfer window shuts.
He has also generated interest from Turkiye where former manager Jose Mourinho would like to reunite with him at Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are also keen on a move.
The future of the United academy graduate is still very much up in the air as despite all the talk of an exit, he may also end up staying at Old Trafford. Nonetheless, many rumours can be expected about his future over the next couple of weeks as United aim to generate funds to launch one final assault on the transfer market.
