Shakur Stevenson is complaining on X that no one wants to fight him right now. The WBC lightweight champion Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) says he won’t get the fights he wants until he becomes a “PPV superstar.”

That doesn’t sound promising for the 27-year-old free agent Stevenson because he’s recently put on the type of performances that suggest he’s ever going to become a “PPV superstar.”

A Fighter Out of Time?

  • Won’t engage
  • Boring
  • Moves too much

What Shakur needs is some kind of radical shock therapy to transform him into a different type of fighter, curing him of his tendency to move around the ring.

Stevenson must be shocked into becoming a different fighter because it’s not happening with his current mindset. Shakur just doesn’t belong in this era, and he’s like an odd bird that fans hate and fighters avoid like the plague.

Stevenson isn’t suited for modern boxing and belongs fighting in a different era where fans had fewer choices for entertainment and would put up with defensive fighters.

The William Zepeda fight that Shakur had hoped for isn’t happening next because the match is being pushed to early 2025 in February. Gervonta Davis hasn’t shown interest in fighting Shakur, and it’s unclear whether he ever will.

A Controversial Victory

Fans would like to see Shakur rematch Edwin De Los Santos because many feel that his fight against the slugger last November should have been scored as a 12-round draw instead of a win.

Shakur moved all night, throwing single shots and looking frightened of De Los Santos. That was not the ideal way for Shakur to win the WBC lightweight title, and it illegitimatizes him in the eyes of the public.

Fighting De Los Santos again and not running would be the ideal way for Shakur to win back fans and prove he’s ready to fight his #1 challenger, William Zepeda. Forget about Tank Davis and Lomachenko.

Those guys want nothing to do with Shakur because they know what would happen to them. Shakur would hit and run all night, leading to a dull fight that would go to a decision. Depending on the preferences of the judging crew that worked that night, they could lose to Shakur by a controversial decision.

“Where is the energy for the fighters saying, ‘no’? Yall can’t place blame on me because nobody trying step in the ring with me,” said Shakur Stevenson on X, telling his followers not to roast him because he’s supposedly being avoided by fighters.

“I sign up and fight whoever is in front of me. Until I turn myself into a PPV superstar, fighters don’t want to fight me.”
