Florida State coach Mike Norvell said the team will be without quarterback Jaylen Lucas for the rest of the season.

Florida State did not disclose details of the injuries, but Norvell said Lucas has a redshirt remaining that he can use and will have two years of eligibility. Norvell said he expects Lucas to return to Florida State in 2025.

“I’m still very excited about his future as a Seminole player, but it’s unfortunate that we’ll lose him for the rest of the season,” Norvell said.

Lucas was a key part of the Seminoles’ starting quarterback lineup and is one of the nation’s most prolific kick returners. He finished last season with 572 return yards and one score, after transferring from Indiana.

FSU expected its running game to be the strength of its offense in 2024, but through an 0-2 start, the Seminoles rank 128th nationally in rushing yards per game (59.5) and Lucas has carried the ball just twice for 13 yards. He also caught three passes for 39 yards as a receiver.

Norvell said he expects some of Florida State’s younger running backs, including freshman Cam Davis, to fill the void left by Lucas’ injury.

“Our thoughts are with him as he enters his rehabilitation phase, and I know he will do a great job of continuing to help the players on the pitch.
