Manchester United survived an early onslaught from Southampton to eventually return to winning ways with a 3-0 victory at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
The visitors had Andre Onana to thank for keeping the scores level with the Cameroonian saving a spot-kick before his teammates finally swung into action.
Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford scored within a six-minute spell before Alejandro Garnacho netted a late third to add gloss to the scoreline.
Erik ten Hag made two changes from the team that lost to Liverpool before the international break with Amad Diallo restored to the starting line-up.
Amad had a great game vs Southampton
The Ivorian picked up the assist for Rashford’s goal and was a constant threat down the right, linking up with Noussair Mazraoui and even tracking back to help out the Moroccan.
After the game, Opta (via United’s club website) revealed that the 22-year-old created six chances against Southampton, the youngest player to do so since Anthony Martial back in February 2016 when he was only 20.
Amad Diallo created four chances for Manchester United in the first half.

Apart from that, the former Atalanta starlet enjoyed his most productive game in a red shirt in terms of chance creations while topping that particular list among all players on the pitch on Saturday.
He was no slouch defensively as well, as mentioned earlier, winning the most tackles among all players and winning more than half of his ground duels as well.
New contract loading
His early season form has seen the winger register one goal and an assist from three starts and looks to be ahead of both Antony and Garnacho in the pecking order.
He needs to keep this level of display up given the competition for places with the Argentine in particular looking to usurp him and start more games.
Ten Hag has tipped this season to be Amad’s breakthrough campaign and INEOS are keen to hold on to the talented forward with reports indicating a new contract is set to be offered to the player.
The Ivorian has already intimated that he is open to staying at Old Trafford for his whole career and fans will be excited to see what more he can offer in the months to come as the Red Devils seek to climb up the league table.
