Former Manchester United academy player-coach Tom Huddlestone has landed a new job as first-team assistant coach at Birmingham City.
Huddlestone did not make a senior appearance for United but was crucial for the academy players at Carrington.
It’s believed that his experience and guidance immensely benefitted United’s youngsters.
He parted ways with the Red Devils in May this year, as he called time on his career.
The 37-year-old made more than 600 appearances.
Birmingham City, who are co-owned by NFL legend Tom Brady, have now hired Huddlestone just months after he departed Old Trafford.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man joins the League One outfit as the replacement for Ashley Cole.
Cole stepped down from his role at St Andrew’s to concentrate on his responsibilities in the England set-up, where he is assisting interim boss Lee Carsley.
Reacting to Huddlestone’s appointment, Birmingham manager Chris Davies said, “Tom is an excellent coach and a great addition to our First Team Staff as we look to build on our start to the 2024/25 season.”
“He has vast playing experience, which has been added to by coaching roles he has held with both club and international teams.”
“This will provide a different dynamic to the group and I expect the squad to feed off his knowledge of the game.”
Davies added, “We are all looking forward to working with him and wish him every success at Birmingham City.”
It’s understood that Huddlestone, who has also taken a role in the England U21s, will continue working in that capacity while at Birmingham.
