RICKY HATTON knows a thing or two about big fights, and early next year, there could be one with huge repercussions for the heavyweight division.

Next February could see a rematch take place between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua. Their first bout, at Wembley Stadium, was a slugfest and ended with Dubois retaining his IBF title by knockout in the fifth round.

Boxing News caught up with Hatton recently to discuss the latest heavyweight rivalry.

“I think the smart money was always on Joshua,” Hatton said.

“I think everyone knew Daniel was capable of doing that. AJ’s always been a very casual type of character and Daniel had that look in his eye. It reminded me of me against Kostya Tszyu walking to the ring.

“AJ will be back, he’s done the country proud over the years.”

The former unified super-lightweight champion said a second fight may not be what one of them wants.

“I don’t think Daniel would be too happy. He deserves a shot at Tyson or an Usyk rematch.

“If you look at styles in the division, other than Wilder, those two styles make for the best fight. I know it was over in the blink of an eye last time but next time I think it could be different. I think we’d definitely pay to watch that again.”
