Manchester United had to dig deep under pressure as they came back from a goal down at home to overcome Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.
Erik ten Hag, who was under enormous pressure ahead of the game, will be a relieved man as his forwards bailed him out in the second half while Matthijs de Ligt’s heroic display despite a nasty injury will do his confidence a world of good.
There were familiar issues in midfield at times with the manager forced to play Casemiro and Christian Eriksen together after Kobbie Mainoo’s injury setback while Manuel Ugarte had picked up a knock on international duty.
Both veterans are expected to leave at the conclusion of the current campaign with INEOS looking to move on the Brazilian as early as January.
Midfielder needed
As relayed by The Peoples Person, Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka is being looked at by the club with the German adding a wealth of experience while also bringing his champion attitude to the fray.
The 29-year-old has found gametime hard to come by this season, he is yet to start a game under new manager Vincent Kompany while he is also no longer a starter for the German national team.

A change of scenery would do Goretzka a world of good but as per Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, the five-time league winner has no intention of jumping ship mid-season.
He wants to fight for his place and should his fortunes not improve, he would be open to offers next summer with the possibility of landing the player on a cut-price deal owing to his contract ending in 2026.
Goretzka brings a ton of experience
“Currently, Leon Goretzka has no intention of leaving FC Bayern in winter! But he remains on the list of Manchester United,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Ever since INEOS came on board, United’s transfer policy has revolved around signing the best young talents across the world but with Eriksen and Casemiro’s departure, they will lose a lot of experience in the middle of the park.
The former Champions League winner could solve that particular issue while also being a great mentor for Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park.
Whether the Red Devils actually go after the German next summer remains to be seen. He is currently valued at €22 million according to Transfermarkt.
