“It’s a tyre test so we couldn’t change anything on the car – it was the same from the beginning to the end,” said Hamilton. “I know what we need to fix, whether or not we can actually do that we’ll see. But it didn’t feel terrible, a little bit off the front guys, so we’ve got some work to do tonight.”
On where he wants improvements on the W15 Hamilton replied: “Just rear end, you always want more rear.”
Antonelli carried out duties in first practice and was buoyed by his progress, having crashed out of his debut practice session at Monza last month.

“Yeah, definitely much better than Monza,” Antonelli said. “I drove much calmer today, I didn’t want to take any risks, I just wanted to do a clean session to get some laps, understand the car and understand the tyres a bit more, overall it was pretty decent. I could feel I wasn’t on the limit but just because it was my choice, I just wanted to get a clean session overall.”
