While it’s fun to believe that every men’s college basketball team in America has a chance to win a national title and make a run in March, we all know that’s not true. Still, the 68-team field at the NCAA Tournament offers participants from every league in America a shot. That welcoming atmosphere of sports’ most important postseason event captivates the nation for three weeks each year.
The number of teams in Division I men’s college hoops is still a lot to digest (currently 364), though. To help everyone out, ESPN’s Myron Medcalf and Jeff Borzello broke one of them down into layers. Some of these programs can survive March’s chaos and win national titles. We (mostly) know who they are. Then there are squads that deserve more careful estimation. What about those slippers and Cinderella? They are here too.
