AC Milan are determined to beat Manchester United to the signing of AS Monaco midfielder, Youssouf Fofana.
As reported here earlier, the Italian side have admitted that Fofana is their number one target. United continue to push for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte, with the Frenchman considered a backup option.
Monaco originally priced their wantaway star at €35 million, but after the player rejected a transfer to West Ham at that price, they are understood to have lowered their demands.
Milan had left an offer of €20 million on the table but according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, they have now increased their bid in an effort to ward off a possible swoop from United.
Romano claims that “AC Milan [have] submit[ted an] improved bid to sign Youssouf Fofana.
“€20m fixed fee PLUS difficult add-ons.
“Understand AS Monaco now ask €25m plus easy add-ons to let Fofana leave.
“No agreement yet but talks ongoing, as Fofana has been clear since July: he wants AC Milan.”

With the two sides growing closer to an agreement, United will have to act quickly if they are interested in snatching the midfielder from Milan’s grasp in the same manner that they did for Joshua Zirkzee.
As discussed here earlier, Fofana might not have the exact profile that United need but he does represent much better value for money and has better all-round stats than the Uruguayan.
It may be that Monaco will play a waiting game in case United come calling, but Milan’s increased activity today shows they are looking at closing a deal quickly.
The Ligue 1 club may be forced to accept their next offer if they have received no sign from United that they are prepared to compete for the classy midfielder.
