Manchester United are facing a major blow in their potential pursuit of Ajax star striker Brian Brombie.

Back in January, The Peoples Person discussed the Dutch striker’s alleged interest in joining Man United. It was further added that the feeling was mutual, with Erik ten Hag also keen to bring Brobbey to the club during the summer transfer window.

Last month added fuel to the fire when the Ajax star hinted that United was a big club and therefore a potential transfer destination, however, he also mentioned Arsenal and Real Madrid. Brobi added: “After the European Championship, I will be worth 80 million euros!”

Signing a player like Brobbey could be quite attractive to United fans, especially with his undoubted talent that has shone through from an early age. In fact, when he was 14, Brobbey’s vertical leap surpassed that of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Known for his strong physicality and low center of gravity, the 22-year-old has matured seamlessly into his role up front, representing Ajax in the UEFA Champions League last season with one goal in five matches, while scoring 13 goals in 32 Eredivisie matches. (Transfermarkt)

He has really come into his own this season, scoring 18 goals in 30 Eredivisie games, converting an impressive 21% of his shots, proving just how clinical he is in front of goal.

It is also worth mentioning that the rising star already has two titles in the Eredivisie and the Dutch Cup. In the 2020–21 season he won a league and cup double with Ajax, while in the 2021–22 season Brobbey helped Ajax retain the league title by scoring seven goals in just 11 league appearances.

Reflecting on Brobbey’s stats and his growing influence at Ajax, it’s understandable to think why he could be considered a suitable signing for United this summer.

Add to the mix that Rasmus Hojlund is currently the club’s only natural striker and Brobbey’s transfer becomes even more attractive.

Unfortunately, luring the Dutch forward to Old Trafford could prove tricky given what he revealed in a recent interview.

Speaking to Ajax Life, Brobbey admitted that a transfer this summer seems unlikely after talks with Ajax sporting director Marijn Beuker.

“I spoke briefly with Marijn Beuker. He told me what the plans and changes within Ajax would be. Nothing was said to me, but to my agent. Basically, I’m not allowed to leave. We will live it up,” explained Brobbey.

While signing a player like Brobbey could certainly be exciting, United would do well to explore other options to avoid disappointment if Ajax are unwilling to change their stance.
