Well-sourced journalist Andy Mitten has claimed that he is hearing a lot of good things about Marcus Rashford this pre-season.
Rashford was electric in Erik ten Hag’s first season in charge, scoring 30 goals in all competitions, including the second goal in the Carabao Cup final win against Newcastle United in 2023.
Last season however was a completely different kettle of fish as his campaign was hounded by poor form and off-pitch problems.
The winger only scored eight goals all season, with midfielder Scott McTominay finding the net twice more in all competitions.
What’s more a drinking binge in Belfast in January saw the player dropped after missing training and a strain was put on his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag.
Nonetheless, Rashford has been solid so far in pre-season, playing all three matches to date as his poor showings last year cost him a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
The 26 year old assisted Rasmus Hojlund’s goal against Arsenal as he lofted the ball forward for the young Dane to catch and slot home.
Speaking on his performance Mitten commented, “he’s been sharp pre-season. He did OK, he assisted the opening goal.”
More interestingly however, the writer for The Athletic stated, “I am hearing good things about him and I haven’t heard good things about him since pre-season 2022. So I get that we are really really early on, the season hasn’t even started yet but I am just relaying to you what I am hearing about him and it is positive”.
The Red Devils have brought in Joshua Zirkzee this summer but are still relying on young stars like Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo to carry the attacking burden.
It is still unclear whether Jadon Sancho will be at the club by the end of summer in spite of his rapprochement with Ten Hag.
Therefore, a fit and fully firing Rashford would be a massive help for United this season in their objective of getting the side back to where they feel they belong domestically and in Europe.
