Former Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial’s future is still up in the air as contrasting reports continue to emerge on his new destination.
Martial had been linked with numerous clubs during the last few months of his United deal, where he did not play again after picking up an injury in mid-December.
Clubs in Turkey, France and Saudi Arabia have all been linked to a move for the forward who scored 90 goals for the Red Devils.
Martial spent nine years at Old Trafford but the last few were spoiled by injury and poor overall form, with rare moments of magic sprinkled over a rather flat career in Manchester.
As a result, it was decided that United and the 28 year old would part ways and not enter discussions over a new deal.
The Mirror have reported that “Como are trying to land Anthony Martial on a free transfer from Manchester United.”
“The 28-year-old Frenchman is still weighing up several offers following the expiry of his Old Trafford contract at the end of June and Cesc Fabregas’ side have been on the phone to register their interest after also holding face-to-face discussions with Raphael Varane.”
The English newspaper suggests that the arrival of Varane “could also help their cause in their bid to land Martial”.
This news is contrasted however by Matteo Moretto in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, who has massively downplayed the chances of Martial moving to Como. He reports that “Como have only had a few conversations with … Martial, but they have not gone any further than that. I think Martial may also have other offers to go outside of Europe too, and as things stand, it looks unlikely that he joins Varane at Como.”
Como are not the only Serie A side to harbour an interest in the forward as fellow Italian clubs Fiorentina and SS Lazio have also been recently linked to a move for the player.
It was relayed here yesterday that the Roman club may view Martial as a potential back-up option for Mason Greenwood as he seems to be heading towards Olympique de Marseille rather than Italy.
Wherever he decides to go, playing time must be his biggest consideration as he aims to rebuild his stalled career.
