Manchester United suffered a 2-1 loss against Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in the first match of the club’s US pre-season tour.

(A score of 6 is around average)

First-half player ratings

Andre Onana 7 – Made a good save from an offside situation. Came out of his line more than once to help Amass by claiming the ball. His distribution was superb and also commanded his area.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6 – Kept the ball well, got forward a few times

Leny Yoro 6 – Started off shakily by misjudging a high ball but recovered. Was comfortable for the rest of the time he was on the pitch before coming off with an injury.

Harry Maguire 6 – Comfortable and kept it simple.

Harry Amass 6 – Started confidently by producing a sensational turn to evade the Arsenal press. Had some nice combinations with Rashford on the left flank but was blindsided by Gabriel Jesus for the Gunners’ equalising strike. Jesus may have been offside.

Casemiro 4 – Some erratic passing and poor decision-making on the ball.

Toby Collyer 7 – Solid performance. Put in some nice tackles and really showed his mettle. Easy to see why Ten Hag thinks highly of him.

Mason Mount 8 – Great display. Held up the ball well and occupied good positions between the lines. He also drew in some crucial fouls that helped United advance high up the pitch. His energy was infectious. Also had a shot after Amad slipped him in but he couldn’t hit the target. Best player on the pitch.

Amad Diallo 6 – Had an early shot and should have found the back of the net. Kept the attack ticking and gave Zinchenko a lot of problems to deal with.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Looked sharp and hungry. Excellent first-time ball over the top for Hojlund’s goal and worked well with Amass.

Rasmus Hojlund 6 – Showed some great physicality to bully his marker for the goal. Unfortunately, he was forced off three minutes later after breaking the deadlock with an injury.

First-half substitutes

Hannibal Mejbri 5 – Didn’t offer much in an unfamiliar number nine position.

Rhys Bennett 6 – Slotted in nicely next to Maguire after Yoro was substituted.

Second-half player ratings

As expected, Ten Hag has made a raft of changes at the interval, making 10 in total. Only Onana stayed on from the opening 45 minutes.

Andre Onana 7 – Picked up where he left off in the first half. He was great from corners and regularly came out to either punch or claim the ball. Made another stunning save to deny Leandro Trossard.

James Scanlon 4 – Had some trouble keeping Gabriel Martinelli at bay when the Brazilian winger was thrust into proceedings. Got done for the goal. Unsurprisingly struggled in a relatively unfamiliar position.

Will Fish  5 – Should have done better for Martinelli’s goal, seemed to lay off a bit and made it slightly easier for the Arsenal man.

Jonny Evans 6 – Comfortable and guided young Fish. His experience really showed.

Sam Murray 6 – Fine

Maxi Oyedele 6 – Decent

Christian Eriksen 6 – Fine

Scott McTominay 6 – Could have been involved more. Should have maybe had a penalty after he was brought down inside the Arsenal box.

Antony 6 – Tracked back to help out Scanlon defensively, attempted a curved shot but it didn’t trouble the goalkeeper.

Jadon Sancho 6 – Tried to beat his man on a few occasions and was United’s main source of threat.

Ethan Wheatley 5 – Didn’t have much to work with
