After a difficult first six months under manager Erik ten Hag, Aaron Wan-Bissaka appeared to be on his way out of Manchester United.
But Diogo Dalot’s injury at the Qatar World Cup allowed the right-back to enter the fray and he grabbed his opportunity with both hands and never looked back, even impressing going forward.
But his well-known problems with the ball returned last season and repeated injuries meant the Portuguese regained his starting position, with the Englishman forced to watch from the bench or play on the left side of defence.
While his one-on-one defense remains exceptional, it is on the ball where the former Crystal Palace man continues to struggle with a manager who wants more attacking options down the flanks.
AWB are still looking
Despite his obvious technical weaknesses, the 26-year-old is still wanted by Inter Milan, Galatasaray, Al-Nassr as well as his former club who are interested in his services.
United have triggered a one-year extension option to preserve the right-back’s market value and despite Wan-Bissaka’s desire to stay and fight for his place, the Red Devils are expected to try to move him on as they look to keep a close eye on PSR.
Another Italian club in the form of AS Roma has now joined the race CalcioMercato journalist Maurizio Russo.

The United defender is said to be the Giallorossi’s first choice to strengthen at the back and they are keen to move Zeki Celik to Galatasaray. If they fail to land United’s FA Cup hero, they will keep hold of the Turk.
“Roma – There is no confirmation of the agreement with Galatasaray on the sale of Zeki Celik. The Istanbul club still likes the Turkish defender.
“But the first target for that role is Manchester United’s Wan-Bissaka. Steel remains an alternative if the agreement does not go through,” the journalist wrote X (earlier Twitter).
Roma watches AWB
The 20-time Premier League champions splashed out an initial £45m to sign the Eagles full-back and are expected to take a big hit on their investment.
If INEOS can come close to half that amount, that would be a big deal. According to the previous reports that he conveyed The People’s Personthe Turkish club is also chasing Wan-Bissaka and is asking to pay only 10 million euros.
Under the Glazers, such a deal would normally get the green light. But the new co-owners are said to be keen to improve the club’s poor record and should try to get a better price for the former England U21 international.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be hoping for a bidding war given the interest the defender is generating. That would guarantee a higher price.
