Austin FC has acquired Ukrainian center back Oleksandr Svatok, a 29-year-old member of the Ukrainian Men’s National Team competing in the European Championship.

Svatok has a guaranteed three-and-a-half-year contract that runs through the end of the 2027 season with an option for 2028, Austin FC announced Monday. He is a transfer from SC Dnipro-1, where he served as captain.

“What attracted me most to Austin FC was the ambition of the club,” Svatok said in a press release. “There’s a clear desire to compete and build a team that the city can be proud of. That’s something I want to be a part of.”

The Ukrainian men’s national team plays Belgium in the final group stage game of the European Championship on Wednesday. Svatok has made six previous appearances for Ukraine, most recently playing the full 90 minutes in a shutout draw with Germany on June 3. He made 109 appearances for SC Dnipro-1, including eight in the UEFA Europa League.

Austin FC sporting director Rodolfo Borrell praised the leadership and defensive play of Svatok, who “will bring a physical presence to our defensive options.”
