AUSTIN, Texas – The weekend is right around the corner and, as always, there’s plenty going on in the Austin area! From fireworks displays to movie screenings, there’s no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.

Here’s a rundown of just a few of the events you can attend this weekend.

Of course, this weekend starts a little early with the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, and there are plenty of events planned to help Central Texans celebrate.

From the city of Austin’s 47th annual celebration — featuring an Austin Symphony Orchestra concert — to smaller celebrations in nearby cities like Round Rock, San Marcos, Marble Falls and more, there’s plenty of festive fun planned this year Fourth of July.

The Paramount Theatre’s summer series of classic films continues throughout the season, but if you’re looking for an option to beat the heat this holiday weekend, the theater has a stacked lineup planned.

First, take a trip back to the 80s with an energetic double feature “Dirty Dancing” and “Footloose” Friday. Then catch a family-friendly show of “The Muppet Moviefollowed by a (decidedly less family-friendly) screening of the 40th anniversary of “Purple rainAnd end the weekend with some heavy moves from the ocean:gorge” and a Hyperreal Film Club screening of “Break on point.”

When: “Dirty Dancing” at 7:00 p.m. Friday, followed by “Footloose” at 9:00 p.m.; “The Muppet Movie” at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and “Purple Rain” at 7 p.m.; “Jaws” at 3pm on Sunday and “Point Break” at 7pm
