Former Manchester United left-back Sergio Reguilón has appeared on Barcelona’s radar, as per reports in Spain.
United’s left-back crisis yet again impacted Erik ten Hag’s starting XI dynamics, as the Dutch gaffer was forced to deploy centre-back Lisandro Martinez on the left flank in the Community Shield in the absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, owing to fitness issues.
Both left backs also missed a big chunk of last season due to injuries. Their absence also led to United acquiring Reguilón on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur late in the summer transfer window of 2023.
United cut short his loan deal in January and the Spaniard returned to Spurs before joining Brentford, where he impressed with his attacking output.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are interested in re-signing the 27-year-old this summer as they continue to face the same problems at left-back.
However, a report from Spanish outlet AS suggests that United may face competition from Barcelona.
The newspaper states that Reguilón could be a “big surprise” addition to Barca’s ranks, and the former Real Madrid star has already been “sounded out” by the La Liga giants as a possible option to strengthen their backline.
The Catalan outfit are in the market for a new left-back following the exit of ex-Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso, who has interestingly been linked with United this summer. Alejandro Balde is the only senior left-back at Hansi Flick’s disposal.
Reguilón has entered the final year of his contract in North London, and the report reveals that Tottenham are open to parting ways with him, as they do not see the Spain international in their future plans.
On Saturday, it emerged United have agreed a deal to sign full-back Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
The Morocco international, who shone under Ten Hag at Ajax, is capable of playing on both flanks. Further, youngster Harry Amass also impressed at left-back during pre-season.
As such, it would not surprise many if United decide to not make a move for a left back this summer.
