La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly ready to make a radical bid to Manchester United in a bid to land sensation Kobbi Mainoo.
Mainoo has been one of the few beacons of hope for United during a dismal 2023/24 season.
Since breaking into the team in November after a lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury, the teenager hasn’t looked back and is now one of United’s key players and arguably their best midfielder.
Last term, he made 32 appearances in all competitions and scored five goals and one assist during that time.
Mainoo has been named in England’s final 26-man squad ahead of Euro 2024 and according to Gareth Southgate, there will be no hesitation in starting him at the tournament in Germany.
There have been rumors that some clubs are eyeing Mainoo and potentially trying to pry him off United’s hands.
Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid have previously been mentioned as an interested party for the young midfielder. Back in February, a report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that if Hansi Flick were to take over the Barcelona job from Xavi, he would also try to sign Mainoo, who he greatly admires.
Just a few weeks ago, Barca finally parted ways with Xavi and replaced him with Flicka. The Blaugrana are preparing to make moves in the summer transfer window to support their new manager and El Nacional with reports from The Faithful MUFC that the German coach is ready to swoop and secure Mainoo’s services.
Flick is understood to be confident Mainoo would be a perfect addition to his Camp Nou ranks if the Catalan giants fail to land other midfield targets such as Martin Zubimendi, Amadou Onana, Mikel Merino or Joshua Kimmich.
In this sense, Barca is ready to offer United Raphinh plus the sum of 10 million euros in exchange for the young Mainoo.
Barcelona are keen to get rid of Raphinha but have faced disappointment as no suitors have come forward to try and buy the Brazilian winger.
If the report is correct, Barca’s proposal would be laughable at best. United would never consider moving on from Mainoo, and bringing in Raphinha for a measly €10m only makes it more absurd.
Mainoo is the future of United and proof of that can be seen in the club’s desire to get him to sign a new and improved deal to keep him at Old Trafford for many years to come.
