Manchester United’s transfer activity moved up a gear this week with the confirmed signings of Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Erik ten Hag will be hoping for one or two further additions before the end of the window with United still looking light in attacking areas.
Barcelona winger Raphinha is reported to be one of the names on the manager’s shortlist with the Brazilian unsettled at the Nou Camp.
As reported by The Express, this will come as great news for United captain Bruno Fernandes, who has a tight relationship with the former Leeds man.
The pair’s connection is no secret with Raphinha stating the pair “talk every day” since developing a strong bond at Sporting Lisbon.
Fernandes has previously waxed lyrical about the 27-year-old, praising his qualities both on and off the pitch, saying that he “misses” his ex-teammate.
“He’s a player with whom I had a different chemistry from the others. He understood me at a glance.
“I also miss him because he brought joy to the locker room. He’s also a responsible and hardworking person,” said Bruno.
Barca are thought to be open to business but have slapped a price tag north of £50 million on Raphinha’s head.
They would also prefer to offload other fringe players at the club before the winger as they attempt to raise funds in Catalonia.
United will certainly need to sell before they buy and Jadon Sancho looks like the only viable player to shift to make Fernandes’ dream come true.
Talks have broken down with potential suitors on the sale of Sancho but things could ramp up over the coming weeks with the window slamming shut at the end of the month.
United kick off their Premier League season this week by welcoming Fulham to the Theatre of Dreams on Friday.
