RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s soccer team learned Tuesday that former student-athlete Bryant Farkarlun (2023) signed a Major League Soccer (MLS) contract with Austin FC.
Farkarlun joins the Austin FC first team on a guaranteed contract until the end of the 2024 season with options for 2025 and 2026, while also signing a loan deal with Austin FC II, allowing him to appear in both MLS matches and MLS Next Pro.
Farkarlun was elected on the 31ststr overall in last year’s MLS SuperDraft becoming the third player in program history to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft after Kyle Edwards (2018-19) was drafted by the Houston Dynamo in the fourth round in 2020 and Reshaun Walkes (2020-21) was drafted by Toronto FC in the third round in 2022.
Farkarlun spent the 2024 preseason with the Austin FC first team scoring two goals and registering one assist. So far this season, Farkarlun has made 12 appearances with ATXFC II in MLS Next Pro and has scored two goals with three assists.
Farkarlun, who earned first-team All-WAC honors in 2023, played in 12 games while making 11 starts for the Vaqueros and tied for the team lead with five goals and 10 points.
