Canelo Alvarez Vows To Inflict Painful Punishment On Edgar Berlanga

Canelo Alvarez vows to give challenger Edgar Berlanga the “beating of his life” on September 14th to make him pay through suffering for the bad-mouthing he’s done about him since their match was signed.

Alvarez Seeks Vengeance 

Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KOs) says he wants to make his WBA mandatory Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) suffer for seven or eight rounds before he puts him out of his misery by knocking him out in their headliner at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Mexican star Canelo doesn’t like he’s just talking to promote the fight. He wants to beat Berlanga for general purposes. He wants to teach him a lesson he won’t soon forget.

Berlanga has been talking all kinds of crazy stuff, blabbing about how he will knock Canelo out within six rounds and punish him for overlooking him. He seems to have things worked out in his mind that Canelo views him as a ‘soft touch,’ and it’s angering him like no tomorrow.

“It’s another Canelo when someone talks [stuff] about him, and you’re going to see on September 14th that it’s a different Canelo there,” said Canelo Alvarez to the Pound 4 Pound YouTube site, talking about his bad blood towards the trash-talking Edgar Berlanga for their fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Berlanga’s Potential for Untold Riches 

All the knockout wins Berlanga has scored during his short career have given him a sense of invincibility, making him believe he can do the same thing to Canelo that he did to most of the guys he’s faced. If Berlanga knocks out Canelo, he will be one rich person.

The money that Berlanga will make from a knockout victory over Canelo will be unreal, and he’s well aware of that. Berlanga can move to the wealthy Brooklyn Heights or Cobble Hill. Those areas are for the ultra-rich in New York, besides Manhattan and Nassau County.

“My mind is to try to kill him and just wake up that monster of Canelo,” Alvarez continued. “I’m going to let him feel pain for seven or eight rounds, and that’s it,” Canelo continued with his intentions toward Berlanga. “Like I told you, I’m going to give him the [backside] beating of his life.”

As you can see, Canelo plans to hurt Berlanga for his disrespect towards him. Whether he can do it or not will be interesting to see on September 14th. Berlanga is a huge puncher. Those shots he landed on his last opponent, Padraig McCrory, would knock out anyone in the 168-lb division or at 175. He’s a fighter who doesn’t know his own strength and is built for the power game.

Why Las Vegas, Not New York?

“Because it’s Mexican Independence Day on September 14th. If the fight was in October, November, or December, we could have made it in New York,” said Canelo when asked why he didn’t agree to stage his fight with Berlanga on his turf in New York rather than Las Vegas.

It would have been silly for Canelo to defend his WBA, WBC, and WBO super middleweight titles against Berlanga in his hometown in New York City. Canelo would have the crowd against him, giving Berlanga more energy to fight hard to get the upset.
