Manchester United won at Wembley against rivals Manchester City to claim their 13th FA Cup title on Saturday.
The odds were firmly against the Red Devils given their poor finish to the league and the fact that the start of the game was all about the potential sacking of manager Erik ten Hag.
However, on the day, the Dutchman executed a perfect game plan as the 20-time English champions barely gave Pep Guardiola’s men the space to play their usual passing game.
The former Ajax coach also took the gamble of starting Sofyan Amrabat in place of Casemiro and the ploy went down a treat as the Moroccan played his best game in a red shirt.
Casemiro unhappy after faltering in FA Cup final
The Brazilian was expected to start after the Fiorentina star’s average performance against Brighton in the final league game of the season.
However, after some confusion regarding the team sheet, Ten Haag told the media that the former Real Madrid superstar was not fully fit and had been dropped. Those claims were dismissed by the Brazilian media.
The defensive midfielder was not in his usual post-match mood and took a break instead of joining his team-mates in the post-match celebrations.
The People’s Person claims a move is the most likely option, but there are question marks over Al-Nassr’s ability to cough up the asking price INEOS have set for the midfielder.
Goal Brasil claim that Casemiro is expected to meet with United’s hierarchy to decide on his future course of action. It has already been reported that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is not the biggest fan of the money the club spent to sign the five-time Champions League winner.
The 32-year-old earns £350,000-a-week (according to capology) in Manchester, and INEOS want to take that off the table.
Interestingly, the report also states that two Saudi clubs are ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, Al Ahli and Al-Qadisiyah, both of whom are willing to increase the Brazilian international’s wages.
“GOAL predicts that the directors of Casemiro and Manchester United will hold a meeting to define the midfielder’s future.
Get out on the cards
“It is expected to seal the end of the marriage between club and player, symbolizing one of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first decisions at the head of football’s institution.
“Sources have confirmed to GOAL that Al Ahli and Al-Qadisiyah will be the two teams most ready to invest in the Brazilian at the moment.
“The main issue is, of course, a financial one: the understanding is that they would not only match Casemiro’s current salary in Manchester, but also put an even more lucrative offer on the table.”
It’s been a short but successful stint in England for Casemiro and while he was certainly one of the signings last season, this campaign has been extremely difficult for the midfield general. Exit seems to be the best outcome for both parties.
