Chelsea are “exploring [a] deal” to sign Jadon Sancho from Manchester United before the August 30 deadline, according to a report by Sky Sports News.
Dharmesh Sheth, Sky Sport’s chief reporter, reveals both Chelsea and Juventus are interested in signing the 24-year-old winger with United preferring a “permanent” deal should Sancho depart Old Trafford this summer.
However, Sheth contends, a loan move is “not ruled out” with there likely to be a growing acceptance amongst United executives that there is little interest amongst potential suitors to match the club’s £40 million asking price for Sancho.

As explained in greater detail by The Peoples Person here, Juventus had appeared the “most likely” destination for Sancho this summer. However, the Italian giant were exclusively interested in a loan and have already agreed deals to sign two wingers – Nico Gonzalez and Francisco Conceição – this week.
Interestingly, Sheth reveals Chelsea may seek tempt United with a player exchange. This suggests the London club would be open to a deal with a “player going the other way” to help facilitate the move.
Gianluca Di Marzio, an Italian transfer expert, contends Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are two potential options Chelsea may use in negotiations with their United counterparts.
Sterling would help replace the flexibility in attack Sancho’s absence would create, while Chilwell would enter Old Trafford as the only fit left-back at the club, given the ongoing absences of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia through injury.
Di Marzio also reveals Juventus are “continuing to negotiate” with United over a loan deal for Sancho, suggesting the Old Lady cannot be fully ruled out.
The 24-year-old winger has been left out of the first-team squad for both of United’s opening Premier League games this season. He reportedly reiterated his desire to leave Old Trafford this summer following his omission from the squad to face Fulham last weekend.
Sancho did travel to the Amex Stadium yesterday to watch United fall to a disappointing 2-1 defeat from the stands, but it’s suggested the winger was not included in the match day squad as negotiations over his departure continue in the background.
As the summer transfer window enters its final week, United are likely to accept that any deal which sees Sancho’s enormous wage packet being outsourced elsewhere is better than the alternative of an unhappy player remaining in the dressing room (or watching from the stands).
If the club were able to sign an experienced goal scorer, such as Sterling, or a natural fullback in a position of desperate need, like Chilwell, in the process, it would constitute a better outcome than the alternative.
