Manchester United’s victory in the FA Cup final put a cap on an extremely poor season as a whole.

The club limped to the bottom of the league and were relegated early in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

The main reason for the decline was the form of the heroes of the first season Erik ten Haag who were nosediving superbly.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were the bedrock on which Ten Hag’s United dominated in their first season, and both became underdogs in his second season.

Eriksen, in particular, felt the brunt because unlike Casemiro, he was available for a lot of time, but Kobbie Mainoo plus United’s new tactical system pushed him completely aside.

As a result, there are rumors that this could be the summer when Eriksen and United’s short-lived two-year marriage ends.

He has already reminded the world of his qualities with a virtuoso performance for his country against Sweden, and with the Euros yet to come, he can create a market for himself.

Speaking to TV2 after the win against Sweden, Eriksen reflected on a difficult season and how difficult it was for him to adapt to his new reality of being a bench player.

He said: “For me, the season was a bit different from other seasons. It was a slightly different role. It’s new to me, but it’s also new to the outside world. It is clear – in relation to how people talk (about me).

“I was also a little lucky that I didn’t sit on the bench that much when I was younger. But I did it from time to time. It’s never fun, that’s for sure.

“Personally, you always want to be the first to be picked in the team. Sometimes the coach looks the other way. But then, I play for United. It’s just a battle for places because there are a lot of good players.”

It is, as expected, an extremely mature answer from a top professional who is respected by everyone in the world of football.

Eriksen acknowledged the reality of his situation and probably hinted that last season was not what he was looking for in the final years of his career.

Perhaps a change of club is on the horizon, where he could be a more important part of the team. It is certain that, should a move happen, he will leave with the best wishes of everyone at the club.
