Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen is still a top target for Anderlecht as the transfer window draws to a close.
The Danish midfielder played regularly when he sealed a move as a free agent to Old Trafford in 2022.
Although, with the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo last season, he lost his place in the starting line up and he has had to make do with a bench role at the club.
Resultingly, the player is said to be unhappy with the situation and has been looking for an exit route from United.
Eriksen has ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia in the past but he has been on the radar of clubs such as Ajax and Anderlecht, but the Dutch side do not currently have the finances to make a deal work, despite the playmaker being reportedly available for the modest price of €5 million.
One club that do remain interested however are the Belgians, Anderlecht, as outlet Het Belang van Limburg report that “for Anderlecht, Christian Eriksen (32) remains the top target as a new playmaker.”
The Belgian paper describes a potential move as “unprecedentedly strong transfer” for the Jupiler Pro League side.
The club’s CEO Jesper Fredberg and coach Brian Riemer “are already pulling at his sleeve”, trying to convince the midfielder of the move.
The Peoples Person already previously relayed that the Anderlecht manager has claimed he is attempting to use his connections to get a deal done for the Danish international, as they know each other from both men’s time at Brentford.
From Anderlecht’s perspective, “Eriksen ticks all the boxes as a potential new playmaker” due to his massive experience, leadership skills and creativity.
According to their information, “Eriksen is certainly not opposed to leaving Manchester United, where he has reached a bit of an impasse” and would be eager to prove himself again elsewhere.
The paper goes on to state that the closer we get to the deadline, the more favourable the situation remains for Anderlecht as he has not yet received any proposals that “appeal to him”.
There is also the qualification that any deal depends on the conditions that the Old Trafford club set for his exit.
With the probable signing of Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro likely staying, the emergence of Toby Collyer and the signing of Sekou Kone, who could play a part in the first team as the season wears on, Eriksen’s role at the club will only be further reduced should be stay in Manchester.
