Manchester United came up short in almost every department last season, and midfield was no exception.

But while other areas were beset by injuries, manager Erik ten Hag generally had plenty of options available in the middle of the park but didn’t always show the confidence to change them.

One such option was Christian Eriksen, who was a central cog in the well-oiled machine last season but only started 12 Premier League games in 2023/24.

When he did play, the Dane looked a yard short at times and often seemed to be bullied off the ball in the middle of the park.

However, he has been sensational for Denmark so far at Euro 24, scoring a vital goal in his first match and rolling back the years with his old performance against England in the second.

According to Statman Dave, “Eriksen created more chances (11) than any other player at Euro 2024.

“He created more chances than Saka, Foden, Kane, Bellingham and Alexander-Arnold managed together (8).”

Not bad for washed stuff.

Now the question is what does this mean for Manchester United and the Dane’s future at the club?

Recent reports suggest the 32-year-old is unhappy with the amount of playing time he is getting and wants to leave Old Trafford.

On the other hand, if Eriksen can produce for United what he produced for Denmark, then it would seem madness of the highest order to let him go.

Would he have played like this if he had had more runs at United and if the manager had played to his strengths and given him more confidence?

Or is he only able to produce this form because the pace of international football is slower than in the Premier League?

In any case, with a market value of just £6.75 million, it is hardly worth selling this top professional, who would be extremely difficult to replace on a tight budget.
