On Wednesday, July 24, the best in the MLS will take the pitch at Lower.com Field.

Those associated with the team say it’s an exciting time to be a soccer fan in Columbus.

“Just think about our last eight months at Lower.com Field. You host the MLS, win the MLS Cup and then next Wednesday, hosting the MLS All-Star game. Those are the league’s two (big) events. To be able to host those here is incredible. Not many teams get to do that,” said Josh Glessing, acting President for the Columbus Crew and Chief Strategy and Development Officer for the Haslam Sports Group.

The entire stadium now dressed up in MLS All Star decor with majority of signs getting ready for the MLS Skills Challenge on Tuesday before the game Wednesday, but there’s more than just events at Lower.com field for this event.

“It’s more than just the match itself. From our perspective, All-Star week starts tomorrow with the MLS Soccer Celebration at McFerson Park down the street that takes place tomorrow, Sunday, and Monday, the MLS Concert series Marshmello and PinkPantheress on Sunday night at Nationwide Arena, and that rolls into a slew of community soccer events starting Monday,” said Glessing.

Tuesday at 3:30 at the historic Crew Field the Special Olympics Unified Sports All-Star game will take place as well.

Experience Columbus says all of this will bring in $20 million to the local economy.

“We’re blessed to be able to use the power of the global game of soccer to create impact in the community,” he said.

Glessing hopes those who travel from out of town leave with good memories from Columbus.

“I just hope that the opportunity to experience all the city has to offer, whether it’s associated with the All-Star game or it’s just our arts culture and our people, I hope people leave here with the same feeling that I have every day and it’s just thankful to spend time in Columbus,” he said.
