Daniel Dubois has moved up to the #3 slot on the Ring Magazine heavyweight rankings following his fifth-round knockout win over Anthony Joshua on September 21st at Wembley Stadium in London.
The Ring Magazine rankings need to be tweaked for every weight class, but especially at heavyweight because most of the placements make no sense.
Dubois should be at #1, just behind WBA, WBC, and WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk, as he’s beaten the best fighters in the last year. There’s still controversy involved with Dubois’ fight against Usyk last year in Poland based on the fifth-round body shot he dropped him with, which the referee ruled as a low blow. Replays showed it was on the beltline. That should have been a knockout win for Dubois.
Ring Magazine still has Fury ahead of Dubois at #1 despite him coming off a loss in his last fight and his poor showing in his fight before that against Francis Ngannou in October 2023. Many felt that Ngannou was robbed in that fight, and I watched and had it 8-2 for Francis.
Champion: Oleksandr Usyk
- Tyson Fury
- Daniel Dubois
- Joseph Parker
- Zhilei Zhang
- Agit Kabayel
- Martin Bakole
- Anthony Joshua
- Filip Hrgovic
- Efe Ajagba
- Justis Huni
It makes sense that Dubois is moved up in the rantings, but he should be higher than #2, and should be above Fury. All you have to do is watch how Fury performed against the novice Ngannou, who was making his debut in boxing, to know that he’s not the same fighter he once was.
Fury should be further down in the rankings below his buddies, Joseph Parker, Zhilei Zhang, Agit Kabayel, and Martin Bakole, because those guys fight higher than him. The Gypsy King hasn’t looked like his old self since his second fight against Deontay Wilder in 2020. In all of his performances since, he’s looked like a shadow of his former self.
My rankings:
Champion: Daniel Dubois
- Oleksandr Usyk
- Martin Bakole
- Agit Kabayel
- Zhilei Zhang
- Bakhodir Jalolov
- Filip Hrgovic
- Anthony Joshua
- Moses Itauma
- Tyson Fury
- Efe Ajagba
