Promoter Oscar De La Hoya roasted Devin and Bill Haney during this week’s Clap Back Thursday, ridiculing them over their lawsuit of his company, Golden Boy Promotions, and Ryan Garcia based on the fight earlier this year on April 20th. The Haney’s are suing Ryan Garcia for breach of contract over his positive test for the PED Ostarine.

De La Hoya says that Haney wants “Money that doesn’t exist,” as he claims that the fight with Ryan only caused 300,000 PPV buys. That’s a lower number than many had expected it to make due to the tremendous hype going into the match. Ryan’s huge social media following didn’t help the PPV numbers for the fight, and that’s the strange part. They chose not to buy this fight in large numbers.

Ryan’s odd behavior during the build-up, which made him seem unhinged, gave some boxing fans the perception that the fight would be a mismatch. That may have affected the pay-per-view success. In hindsight, it would have been better if Ryan had acted like his normal self. Haney was a clear favorite based on his better resume, which includes wins over Regis Prograis, Vasily Lomachenko, Jorge Linares, and Joseph Diaz.

De La Hoya sounds like he wants Bill and Devin to drop their lawsuit rather than go to court, but it doesn’t look like they will do that.

“A few weeks ago, the Haney’s filed a lawsuit in the state of New York against for battery, fraud, and breach of contract,” said Oscar De La Hoya in his Clap Back Thursday post on social media.

“They don’t believe the fact that Garcia vs Haney only did a little over 300,000 homes, and they have been paid what they are owed. They want more money that doesn’t exist. Number one, Bill, we live in the same fancy neighborhood in Henderson [Nevada]. You could have knocked on my board and simply asked to see my books. We have told you over and over that this fight just didn’t sell.

A rematch between Haney and Garcia might not be worth it, given the underwhelming numbers for their previous fight on April 20th. Ryan would be better off fighting Gervonta Davis in a rematch or battling Teofimo Lopez or Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. Ryan is popular enough to fight anyone and do good numbers.
